What are the benefits of having pets?

Many studies have been made about people and their pets and the benefits derived from their relationships. The results published are all good. Having pets and being engaged in caring for them result in health benefits such as a reduction of stress, lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol, a more manageable heart rate.Taking a dog for a walk is good exercise. Pets are a source of companionship and unquestioning love and affection, especially to those who live alone or are handicapped or bedridden. Just stroking a cat’s fur gives so much pleasure and a great feeling… almost a high!

Some prisons allow the inmates to have contact with pets and consequently, the prisoners, even the hardened ones, become less violent and pick fights less frequently.
A prison facility in Queensland, for example, brings in puppies for the prisoners to look after for sixteen months, then sends them out to be trained as service dogs or pets
